🎃 A Halloween secret message word search. Find all 22 spooky words, and every letter you didn’t use spells a hidden phrase — with a little joke at the end. Play it right here on screen, or print it — the answer key sits in a small strip at the bottom, so fold it backward along the dotted line before you start.
⏱ Target time: under 10 minutes. JACK-O’-LANTERN fills a whole row from edge to edge. Find it first and the rest of the grid opens up.

The 21 letters still showing in red weren’t used by any word. Read them left to right, starting at the top row, and type the phrase they spell.
This one works in two stages. First you find every word on the list, just like any word search. Then the grid hands you a bonus: once every word is found, the letters nobody used are the secret, already in order.
Stuck on the last word or two? Look at the letters that still aren’t crossed out and check whether any of them could start a word on the list. If a letter can’t belong to any remaining word, it’s probably part of the secret.
Moonlight Mischief hides 22 Halloween words in a 12×12 grid, from things you’d wear (COSTUME, CAPE, WITCH HAT) to things you’d eat (CANDY CORN, APPLE) to things that go hoot and cackle in the night. Nine words run down, eight run across and five run diagonally. Every square of the grid belongs to a word except twenty-one — and those twenty-one spell the secret, which ends with a pun.
It’s our second secret message word search, after Harvest Time, and it’s meant to be fun rather than frightening — no graves, no gore, just pumpkins, owls and a few friendly monsters. We checked the grid by computer: every word appears exactly once, nothing runs backwards, no word runs straight into another on the same line, and the leftover letters are spread over eight different rows. For an easier Halloween warm-up, try Trick or Treat, which has just twelve words.
