🖼 A hidden picture is waiting inside the grid. Use the numbers above each column and beside each row to work out which squares to fill in — the answer key sits at the bottom, fold it backward along the dotted line before you start.
Each number tells you how many squares in a row to fill in that line, in order. A clue of 2 2 means: fill 2 squares, leave at least one blank, then fill 2 more.

Nonograms (also called picross, griddlers, or hanjie) are logic puzzles that hide a picture inside a grid of numbers:
This puzzle is a 20×20 grid — 20 squares across and 20 down. For the full method, edge logic, and tougher techniques once you're ready to level up, read our complete guide to nonograms and advanced nonogram techniques.
Not sure where to begin? Here's exactly how Mr. Puzzle opens this grid. Rows are numbered top to bottom and columns left to right.
The clues mirror left to right: column 1 matches column 20, column 2 matches column 19, and so on. Rows 9 and 12 (2 2) are the interesting ones. Columns 10 and 11 already told you they’re blank in the middle, so each 2 has to hug an edge of the picture. The columns on either side tell you exactly which edge.
Every square can be worked out from the clues alone, with no guessing at any point. Four full rows and four rows with zero slack solve almost a third of the grid before you’ve thought hard about anything. The top of the picture takes a little more care, but the mirror-image clues make it easy to check your work.
True North solves into a toque — the Canadian word for a knitted winter hat. It has a round pom-pom on top, two stripes across the crown and a thick ribbed brim folded up at the bottom. Elsewhere it might be called a beanie or a stocking cap, but in Canada it’s a toque, and you don’t leave the house without one.
