How to Solve This Word Search

There's no shortcut around a word search, but there is a smarter order to work in. Try this approach:

With 16 words to track, a simple checklist habit matters more than it seems. For more grid-reading tricks, see our guide to winning at word games.

About This Puzzle

Ocean Life goes well beyond the usual DOLPHIN and OCTOPUS, working in less common sea life like ABALONE, NARWHAL, and BARRACUDA, the longest word in the grid at nine letters. TUNA and KELP are the shortest words on the list at four letters each, which makes them easy to miss in a grid full of longer marine names. One note on the mechanics: a few words in this grid run backwards, carried over from an earlier build standard rather than reconstructed to match our newer forward-only convention.
