Word searches were made for pencil and paper, but plenty of solvers want to work one right on their screen — no printer nearby, or just prefer to keep it digital. Here's what actually works.

Option 1: Print It, Then Solve at Your Desk

The simplest fix if you're near a printer: grab any puzzle from our free printable word search library, print it, and solve it the normal way. Mr. Puzzle always says a real pencil on real paper is still the fastest way to scan a grid — your eyes track letters better on paper than on a lit screen.

Option 2: Solve On-Screen With a PDF Reader

If you print to a PDF instead of paper, most PDF readers — Adobe Acrobat, Preview on Mac, even a browser's built-in viewer — let you draw or highlight directly on the page. Open the puzzle, use your reader's highlight or draw tool, and circle words as you find them. No paper needed.

Mr. Puzzle's take: We don't yet have a click-and-drag word search you solve entirely in the browser — that's on the roadmap. Until then, printing or using a PDF reader's markup tools is the most reliable way to go fully digital.
